Bhagavad Gita(2025) - English version is coming!
Hailed as "one of the most thought-provoking stage performances of 2023", Bhagavad Gita comes back in June this year! "Bhagavad" refers to "The Venerable"; "Gita" refers to "Chant". Bhagavad Gita is part of the Indian epic "Mahabharata", which is a war story of an ancient Indian kingdom. At the eve of war, Lord Krishna reveals the wisdom of Indian Yoga to warrior Arjuna: Adhyatma, Brahma, Dharma, Samsara and the wisdom of the three Gunas. Only by eradicating the attachment to the self can one attain spiritual awareness. Today, as humanity grapples with endless conflicts and the relentless onslaught of artificial intelligence, the Bhagavad Gita may offer us profound revelations.
Director Tang Shu-wing's Bhagavad Gita is a spiritual journey filled with visual and auditory imagery, reimagined through contemporary theatre to reveal the current situation of today's era. On top of ten Cantonese performances led by Mandy Wong and Endy Chow, this return specially features two additional performances in English, performed by Indian actress Muskkan Samtani and emerging actor Perrin Pang. This cross-cultural bilingual production brings a fresh artistic perspective to this Indian philosophical poem, embodying the spirit of Hong Kong's multicultural diversity.
“It was like joining a guided meditation.”——Theatre Critic, Bernice Chan

“The stage design is an astonishing symbol…it reveals the core spirit of storytelling under the tree.” ——Hong Kong Economic Journal
“If the goal was to spur the audience into “raising questions about the spiritual paths” available to us, Tang seems to have made it.” ——China Daily
