In light of the uncertainties surrounding the current COVID-19 situation, we regret to announce that the 1st edition of the Hong Kong International Shakespeare Festival (HKISF) in coming November will be rescheduled to 2021. The preparation of the festival is a long process; all participating overseas arts groups are looking forward to meeting the audience in Hong Kong. It is a sad news for the postponement. Given that there are uncertainties on the reopening schedule of the local performing venues, our original Shakespeare production will also be postponed in the meantime. We would like to express our gratitude to the support and kind understanding of the Home Affairs Bureau, Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Hong Kong Arts Centre as well as European Shakespeare Festivals Network. We look forward to sharing this exciting event with you all next year.
Coincidentally, Shakespeare also went through the closure of theatres because of epidemic. He did not stop writing but finished two great tragedies - “King Lear” and “Macbeth” instead. Today we also have a hard time; but it could not stop our creations, just like the Bard. Hope we can share our creations in theatre with all of you soon.
“Hope is the only medicine miserable people have.” – “Measure for Measure”, Act 3 Scene 1
There are tragedy and comedy in the Bard’s writing. Remember, both of them are amazing.
